We have had the pleasure today to have Angelique Reweti come and korero mai with us about Te Titiriti o Waitangi. It was an amazing session and we learnt a lot of new facts.

• there are 2 versions

• 39 Māori signed the Treaty of Waitangi

• Toia Mai the song relates to the pulling up of the waka and upholding the treaty

• Mana whenua became outnumbered by the settlers

• Busby had already been to NZ and created a document for independence

• 500 chief signed Titiriti o Waitangi

• both of the countries were promised sovereignty

• Waitangi celebrates yearly on the day

• Both made promises

• 3% of land was owned by Māori

• Land wars

• Slapped people for using Reo
