Wish Upon A Matariki Star

THIS, BY GEORGIA...

As the rain runs down my window, I see a glistening light bolting towards my bedroom. I leap underneath my bed covers and pull them tight over my head. There was a subtle creak. "Hello, is anyone there?" I ask. "It's only me Georgia" replies a soft voice. "Hi, how do you know my name?" I say. "I know everyone's name because I am Matariki" sayd the voice again. I peek over my covers. There, standing in my room, was a bright yellow star known as Matariki. "Why are you here?" I ask. The star replies with "I am a Wish Star. You can have one wish granted, it can be anything you desire." "Well then, can you take me to see your children?" I ask politely. "As you wish" Matariki replies. There was a big flash of light so bright if you had looked at it, you would be blinded. The light faded and I opened my eyes again. We were travelling through the night sky. Suddenly we came to a stop. There, in front of me, were Waipuna-a-rangi, Pohutukawa, Tupu-a-nuku, Tupu-a-rangi, Waiti, Waita and Ururangi. I smile, as she trundles back to Earth.

One wet night I was cozy in my bed. Suddenly a big flashing light was coming outside of my window. It was coming closer and closer. Was it Waiti? Outside my window? I heard my parents going to check on me. I pretended I was asleep. They came in and I was silent. When they left I tiptoed to my window. It was Waiti! I was so confused. Why did Waiti come to my house? he said to me "I am a Wish Star. I only doe one wish for you." I said to myself....what would I wish for..... I know what I want to wish for Wish Star! A school holiday! Wish Star said "your wish has been granted." Next thing I knew I drove off to Taupo for a good holiday.

A glistening light shone through my window. I wondered what it was. Suddenly it was coming closer and closer. I realised it was a star. It was Waita and she said "I've come here to grant you a wish." I was shocked. Why did Waita want to grant me a wish? So I thought about what I could wish for all night. The next night Waita came back. She said "do you know what your wish is?" Yes i do. I wish that I could own a zoo. The zoo will have a house that I can live in. Suddenly I was in a zoo! I owned it! So did my family! We had a house to live in at the zoo. Thank you so much Waita.

AND THIS, BY LOCHY....

One wet night I was looking out the window. I saw..... a big bright star! It was flaming down into the backyard. It was like a big boom from space. Once it got down to the backyard I raced outside. The first thing I said was "Who are you?" "I am Pohutokawa and you can have three wishes." Um. I wish I could be the first one to go on Pluto. Yes! Wow! I an on Pluto! My second wish is I want to go to the Milky Way. Woosh! Can we go inside? Do you want to go back to the dinosaurs? No.... my last wish is that I want to be King of Water. Ok, wow I can breathe under water! Can I go back home now? That was the best night ever.

One lonely dark night I peered out my window. Suddenly I saw.... my friend Waiti. I whispered "Hi Waiti, what are you doing here?" She said "I am here to grant you 3 wishes." Wow! I whispered. That sure is a lot of wishes. I wish for..... no rain every single day, sun every day, and my final wish is sitting on couches at school. Waiti said "ok". When I went to school.... my classroom as filled with couches and it was raining and it was sunny, yes very sunny!

AND THIS, BY CHARLIE....

I gaze out the window. A light shimmers. I walk over to my window and open it. I try to be as quiet as I can. The shimmer was actually one of the 7 sisters - Pohutakawa. I stand there in shock. My hand covers my mouth. "Don't be shy" says Pohutakawa. "I will grant you one wish. Choose wisely child". I think for about 5 seconds. "I wish for Honey my dead cat to come back alive." Suddenly, Pohutukawa starts swirling around my room. It is shining brighter than ever before. Out of no where Honey appears in my arms! "Honey, I can't believe you're back!" "You don't know how much I have missed you!" I run into my parents' bedroom and tell them all about it.

One bright cold night, I was gazing upon the beautiful night sky. My sight could see great big stars in the galaxy. I rubbed my eyes. It looked like a glistening star wooshing down from the sky, coming towards me. I anxiously backed away slowly and suddenly fell off my bed. Thud! It appeared out of the dark shadow. "It's Pohutakawa!" I yelled. She asked if I could wish for anything, what would it be. You would think I would wish for me to go to Candyland or something. But no, I wish to see my Grandad. I hopped on Pohutukawa's warm back and whizz up to heave. "Here I come!" I yell. As I come back down to earth I hope off and crawl through the window. I whisper in her ear "Thank you". I jump into my cozy bed and pull my covers over my head and go to sleep....

FINALLY, THIS BY ELLA....

One wet and stormy night I went to look out my window. There was a glowing star and it was called Matariki. It asked what I dreamed about. Well that is difficult to tell you but I will think about it. Ummmm.... going to Candy Land! Well what are you waiting for? Go ahead. She gave me a big push. There I was. I looked around me. There were so many things to go and eat. I said in my mind should I go there or there? I will go there I said to myself. I went to the Chocolate River! So much chocolate. I have never had that much chocolate before. I am so lucky. Delish. Then I went to the Gummy River. It was yum. The Star pushed me back to hone. I said "Goodbye Matariki I had the best night ever."
