Te Ao Maori with Pa Jack

The BEST part about Thursdays are our weekly visits with Pa Jack. Today Pa talked about the migration of the Polynesian people to New Zealand. This was great as that is what our Inquiry is on! Who knew!!!!!

Anyway, Pa gave us a challenge. We had to get into 4 groups and each group represented the crew on a waka migrating to New Zealand. Pa gave us a list of things we were could take and then we had to decide what 4 items we could bring from a list of 8.

Here's what we all were able to take:

And here is the list of things from which we could choose four from:

We were given six minutes in our group to decide. Then it was time for our Ariki (leader) to share what items we were going to take with us. Which ones would you choose?

After all the groups had shared their ideas, Pa went through and told us which items the Polynesian people DID take. The red ones are the ones we got wrong and the green are the ones we got right. How did you do?

The Polynesians brought with them:

Taro

Coconuts

Chickens

Kunekune pigs.
